city walk

No clichés, no romance: this city walk immerses you in Jewish Berlin in the 1920s. In the Scheunenviertel and the Spandauer Vorstadt he traces the places where long-established German Jews met the new Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe who were looking for a new home in Berlin as a result of war, hunger and expulsion.

Discover the colorful mosaic of theatres, shops, schools, clubs and synagogues in which the lives of these people took place. Information is provided about the Scheunenviertel pogrom in 1923 and the defensive self-defense of Jewish war veterans. Personalities such as the poet Mascha Kaleko or the social worker Siegfried Lehmann, who were among the protagonists of this lively Jewish culture, are presented.

City walk through the Spandau suburbs and the Scheunenviertel on the next entry-free Sunday on August 6th, 2023.
