Dry cleaning, soaking, stabilizing, and mounting – everyday tasks in the practical restoration of paper become exciting challenges when large formats are involved.

At this "Near You!" evening, you will gain insight into the restoration work on a collection of historic posters: around 100 highlights from the Graphic Design Collection.

The posters are being prepared for the Schaudepot in berlin modern, the new museum currently under construction at the Kulturforum, which will also house the Art Library with its own space. Selected examples will be used to explain the extent to which the object's condition, paper quality, size, and previous treatments play a role in restoration and conservation work. A look at the posters undergoing restoration simultaneously offers a glimpse behind the scenes of museum work – as well as a piece of poster history.

Conversation in front of originals with Anne Prothmann (conservator, project manager for the "Restoration of the Schaudepot of Large Posters").

With a welcome from Martin Rossbacher (Chief Conservator, Art Library, Berlin State Museums) and an art historical introduction by Christina Thomson (Head of the Graphic Design Collection, Art Library).

"NAH DRAN!" is the Art Library's event series, where the team presents selected collection objects in a small setting.

Every first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m.

Since the event takes place in the conservation laboratory, the number of participants is limited to 25. We therefore recommend arriving early.

Entrance on the first floor, near the Art Library's study room.
Bags, jackets, and bottles are not permitted. Please use the cloakroom or lockers on the ground floor.
