Accompanying event for the exhibition "Rename?!"
Potsdamer Platz and its surroundings are a microcosm of Berlin’s history: the imperial Wilhelminian era, the Weimar Republic, the Nazi era, the division of the city, reunification, and a fresh start in urban planning—all of this has been inscribed in the street names of this neighborhood, layering over them, erasing them, and rewriting them.
The guided tour with Trille Schünke-Bettinger explores these layers. Who are the people after whom the streets and squares here are named? What decisions lie behind the names that have remained—and behind those that have disappeared?
The tour is a companion event to the special exhibition “Rename?! Berlin’s Street Names and Their History” at the Mitte Museum and invites you to experience the exhibition’s themes firsthand in the urban landscape.
