In this year's Christmas concert, the Berlin Bach Academy emulates the angels and performs three baroque works to the text "Gloria - Glory to God in the highest".
Two Latin settings form the framework of this programme: the famous Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, RV 589, and Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata BWV 191, which the composer based on the Gloria from the High Mass in B minor. The splendour of the Baroque festive orchestra with timpani and trumpets stands for the rejoicing of the angels and their message of peace to the world - et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.
In between, the second cantata of the Christmas Oratorio takes centre stage, with the German text version of the Gloria - "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men".
The concert opens with Heribert Breuer's arrangement of Bach's organ Prelude and Fugue BWV 532, performed here as a concerto for trumpet and string orchestra. And, of course, the evening closes traditionally with Breuer's composition "Merry Christmas!", with the audience invited to join in the Christmas cheer.

The choir of the Berlin Bach Academy, founded in 1991, was originally brought into being as a project choir. Over time, the Berlin Bach Academy has developed into a constantly working choir, which is aimed at singers with special vocal training and choral experience.
The approximately 40 members of the choir are encouraged to prepare themselves. The choir is characterized by a relaxed, yet performance-oriented working atmosphere and is open to new members.
The choir's repertoire ranges from oratorios to a cappella works.
