“How do we stay healthy?” (Event only in German)

The human gut is a prime example of how the body can continuously adapt to environmental changes—especially through nutrition and its metabolic products.

These have a significant impact on the composition of the microbiota, i.e., the totality of bacteria, viruses, and fungi in the gut. The microbiota regulates the immune system, supports digestion, vitamin production, and immune activity. If the balance is disrupted, chronic inflammatory diseases can develop.

The ImmunoPreCept Cluster of Excellence is researching these transitions between health and disease. Prof. Britta Siegmund and Prof. Andreas Diefenbach show how the medical perspective is fundamentally changing—away from symptomatic treatment and toward health as an active, immune-mediated process.
