On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the death of Erwin Gansdorf (October 6, 1904–November 4, 1983), a memorial bench was handed over to the nature lovers, anti-fascists and communists Erwin and Else Gansdorf (November 26, 1905–March 5, 1984). The couple went from Solingen via the Soviet Union to the GDR to Berlin-Lichtenberg, where they lived in Fennpfuhl from 1973 to 1984. Erwin and Else Gansdorf are buried in the Socialist Cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde.
The memorial bench will be officially handed over on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in Fennpfuhlpark Lichtenberg in the presence of the district mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) and the chairman of the commemorative plaque commission Manfred Becker (10369 Berlin, Weißenseer Weg side, near the basketball court).
Rainer Bosse, Chairman of the Fennpfuhl Citizens' Association, and Jelena Gansdorf, granddaughter of Else and Erwin Gansdorf, will speak. The event will be accompanied by music from Matthias Derda (guitar).
The memorial bench was financed with funds from the Fund for Remembrance Culture and the Lichtenberg neighborhood fund. They thank their granddaughter Jelena Gansdorf, the Berlin-Lichtenberg Commemorative Plaque Commission, RBO Inmitten and the Fennpfuhl/RainerBosse citizens' association.
