Film screening with audience discussion

When the famous GDR director Konrad Wolf died in 1982, he was still in the middle of working on his major documentary film project ‘Busch sings’.

In it, he traces the events of the first half of the 20th century using songs sung by Ernst Busch and at the same time creates a cinematic memorial to his friend.

Among other things, Busch's songs comment on the introduction of compulsory military service, the beginning of the military build-up and the passing of the Nuremberg Race Laws.

In 1940, Ernst Busch was deported to southern France and handed over to the Gestapo after an unsuccessful escape attempt. After he is liberated from Brandenburg prison by the Red Army, he gives a concert in front of representatives of the victorious powers.

To mark the 100th anniversary of Konrad Wolf's birth, we are showing the impressive documentary film project that the celebrated director began in 1980 but never completed.
