Survival is everything
Max, a twelve-year-old Jewish boy, escapes deportation, is hidden by a farming family in eastern Poland, and later has to fend for himself in the woods.

After months of solitude, he meets another Jewish orphan boy. Both feel as though they have a family again; together they rescue a baby who has survived a massacre, but this also plunges them into great distress. The film is based on the true story of the survivor Maxwell Smart.
