Open-air photo exhibition on Schloßstraße in Charlottenburg
The open-air photo exhibition "Black Shabbat" by internationally renowned photographer Luigi Toscano features around 20 larger-than-life black-and-white portraits of survivors, relatives, and victims from the Israeli city of Karmiel, who were affected by the Hamas terrorist attack on the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2023.
With his striking portraits, Luigi Toscano aims to give a face to these individual stories and illustrate the suffering the Middle East conflict inflicts even on innocent civilians. His works are both art and a memorial—a call for compassion, empathy, and peace in times of global tension.
The district emphasizes that the exhibition does not represent a political statement on Israeli government policy. Rather, in the spirit of the city partnership with Karmiel, it is intended to draw attention to the fate of the victims and create space for compassion and solidarity with all those affected by violence and terror.
The project was developed in cooperation with the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office and its twin city, Karmiel, Israel.
