From February 16 to 20, Berlinale Goes Kiez once again puts Berlin's neighborhood cinemas in the spotlight, screening selected festival films at five independent cinemas across the capital.
Experience Berlin's vibrant cinema culture
Initiated in 2010, this special series brings the red carpet experience directly to the local community, making festival films accessible in a familiar setting.
This year's participating cinemas are: BALI Kino in Zehlendorf, Yorck Kino in Kreuzberg, Kino Casablanca in Adlershof, SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA in Wedding, and Xenon Kino in Schöneberg. These neighborhood cinemas differ in history, architecture, and programming – together, they contribute to a vibrant film and socio-cultural scene throughout the year.
This special series particularly celebrates their social function as places of community and exchange. With a total of 15 feature films and a short film program, Berlinale Goes Kiez offers a diverse cross-section of the festival's offerings. After each screening, a discussion with the film crews invites audiences to exchange ideas – film enthusiasts can thus engage directly with the filmmakers.
Special screening at Plötzensee Prison
The series will be complemented on February 19 at 5:00 p.m. by a special screening at Plötzensee Prison, which is also open to the public. A moderated discussion with the film crew will follow the screening. Special admission requirements apply to the special screening at the prison: Tickets can be ordered by phone starting February 9 at +49 30 259 20 259.
- The complete Berlinale Goes Kiez program will be published on February 3.
