Battle of the Big Bands: TUM Jazz Band Munich vs. Uni Big Band Berlin, hosted by Cielo Faccio (Kabinet Mirage)

Fanfare blasts shatter the silence! Double basses make Tempelhofer Feld tremble! Piano riffs set the air ablaze! The Luftschloss transforms into the Colosseum in this hard-hitting, top-notch big band battle: The TUM Jazzband, a fixture of Munich’s big band scene, takes on the Uni Bigband Berlin, whose all-star lineup has been setting Berlin’s jazz clubs ablaze for years!

And what better referee to send the energy of this battle soaring than Master of Ceremonies Cielo Faccio from Kabinet Mirage?!

Spanning all styles and genres—whether swing or Latin, ballad or funk, classic or modern jazz—the bands are fired up, giving it their all, and ready to settle the score!

Two big bands enter the arena—only one big band leaves!

(And a little later, the second one, so everyone can meet at the bar to celebrate.)

In the UniBigband Berlin of the Collegium Musicum, the all-stars from all Berlin universities play everything from the great swing classics to dance numbers from the 1950s, Latin grooves, funk, and their own contemporary arrangements. Whether at Schlot or Holzmarkt, a swing dance party or Kultursommer—under bandleader Martin Gerwig, the band gets every club rocking.

TUM JazzBand Munich

The TUM JazzBand has become an integral part of Munich’s big band scene. For many years, the band has impressed audiences with its organic and tightly coordinated ensemble playing, where tradition and new directions in jazz history find their place in a diverse repertoire.
