The Berlin-based trio The Balkonians has been active since 2013. Their lineup is unusual: cello, soprano saxophone/flute, and guitar, complemented by multi-part vocals.

The Balkonians
The music is primarily Eastern European, sometimes melancholic, sometimes joyful and dance-driven. A shared love for European folk music unites them, but—as their name suggests—Eastern European traditions dominate and shape their style. They lovingly reinterpret traditional pieces, giving them a fresh, contemporary presentation. The result is Acoustic Balkan Fusion—a musical journey across the continent, from East to West and back.
