When emigrant Alexei sets foot on Russian soil with his French wife and their son after the end of the war, instead of a spirit of optimism, terror, spying and poverty await him. Thanks to his professional qualities and a pro-regime attitude, the doctor learns to come to terms with the circumstances, while his wife thinks of only one thing: escape.
