The proud second

Typically Berlin: Charlottenburg developed from meadows, bodies of water, mud and a small village, proud like its royal namesake Sophie Charlotte. The incorporation in 1920 was correspondingly unloved - the rise to City West after the Second World War thus became a kind of reparation.

The tour tells the story of the development from the village to the residence to the big city and to the glamorous west after 1900, from the Charlottengrad in the 1920s and from the post-war period to the present day.

From the town hall it goes to the old village center, past the few surviving town houses from the 18th century through the former old town to the castle, through the former workers' neighborhood to the upper-class quarters - and of course to the Kudamm and the Memorial Church.
