Every year on January 19, the day of his murder in 2007, the Gorki commemorates the political commitment of the journalist Hrant Dink, who campaigned for a sustainable Armenian-Turkish rapprochement throughout his life.
After his murderer was released early from prison in November 2023 after 16 years in prison, this year they are focusing on the legal complications surrounding freedom of thought and expression in Turkey.
Arrested Justice brings together the worlds of Hrant Dink, the writer Doğan Akhanlı and the imprisoned philanthropist Osman Kavala in the form of two productions, a presentation and a panel. The project shows how closely their biographies are linked in the fight for freedom of expression.
Reflections
By Miraz Bezar, director
In the short production Reflections, director Miraz Bezar stages a fictional conversation between victim and murderer. By including quotes from the interrogation of Dink's murderer Ogün Samast, who was only 16 years old at the time of the crime, Bezar transforms the text into an intense performance that reflects the contradictory and endless legal processes surrounding the murder plot.

- Directed by Nuran David Calis
The writer Doğan Akhanlı, who lives in exile in Germany, was arrested by Interpol while on holiday in Granada, Spain, at the instigation of Turkey. In his novel Arrest in Granada, Akhanlı not only reports on this fateful summer, but also on previous, sometimes long-term imprisonments.
Doğan Akhanlı died in 2021 without seeing the conclusion of the trial against him. Director Nuran David Calis is now bringing his adaptation from Schauspiel Köln to the stage of Studio Я as a scenic installation.
