"Resonant and romantic" is how Hilary Hahn describes Antonín Dvořák's Violin Concerto, but also so rhythmic that it "evokes images of people stamping their feet and starting to dance."
An ideal work, then, for the American violinist, whose expressive, flexible tone shines equally brightly in delicate and energetic moments. Andris Nelsons leads us into a completely different sound world with Dmitri Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony.
The work is a merciless indictment of the Stalin regime, characterized by aggressive march rhythms, dissonant chords, and profound sorrow.
