Childhood surrounded by Chopin, rare instruments, and folk music: Agnes Obel was born in Copenhagen in 1980 and grew up in a home steeped in music. Her mother played Chopin on the piano, and her father collected unusual instruments—perfect conditions for a future musician. She received piano lessons from an early age, founded her own folk bands, and found significant inspiration for her songwriting in the Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson.
