Researched by restorers

As part of a two-year interdisciplinary catalog project on the works of the Berlin painter Anna Dorothea Therbusch (1721–1782), several of her paintings were subjected to technological examination at the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and pigment analyses were conducted in cooperation with the scientific laboratory of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg.

Therbusch, who came from a Berlin family of painters, even achieved acceptance into the Parisian Académie royale de peinture et sculpture during her extraordinary career, before becoming one of Berlin's most sought-after artists in the last two decades of her life.

The lecture will present the painter's working methods, including some surprising findings, such as her iconic "Self-portrait with an eyeglass" (1782), and place them in the context of her time and her artistic family.

  • Speaker: Anja Wolf, Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
