Folk Tales: Music for Cello
South African cellist Abel Selaocoe is considered one of the most exciting musicians on the international scene. In his cross-genre programs, he combines different eras, cultures, and forms of expression – from composition to improvisation.
In the Pierre Boulez Saal, he will present a new work created in collaboration with composer and director Michel van der Aa. Traditional narratives and musical traditions from Central Africa and Ethiopia meet live electronics and contemporary sounds.
The program will be complemented by a commissioned work by Ben Nobuto as well as Selaocoe's own works.
