In the exhibition SehenSüchte (Seeing Addictions) by Michail Schnittmann, shown in the Realism Gallery of the Artists' Special Association, the Ukrainian-born artist presents his new and earlier works, in which he explores the tension between precise perception and painterly transformation.

Through the use of textured materials, his oil paintings acquire a distinctive haptic quality. Schnittmann choreographs contrasts such as blurring and clarity, rough materiality and smooth surfaces, warm light and deep darkness. Surfaces sometimes appear to be covered with drops, while portraits and figures dissolve behind them – a play of proximity and distance, presence and withdrawal.

In addition to pastels created while travelling, the exhibition also features still lifes on the verge of decay. They convey – in addition to the pleasure of seeing – the longing to capture beauty, light and atmosphere. Michail Schnittmann's masterfully painted visual worlds open up space for memory, projection and emotional resonance.

About the Artists' Special Association in Germany 1990 - Realism of the Present e.V.
‘Est modus in rebus – there is a measure in things’: under this motto, the ‘Künstlersonderbund in Deutschland 1990 – Realismus der Gegenwart e.V.’ (Special Artists' Association in Germany 1990 – Contemporary Realism) has been working for over 35 years to make realistic art accessible to the public.

The Künstlersonderbund is a Germany-wide association of around 90 professional artists. In their work, they represent the art movement of representational-figurative realism in their own individual styles. This position is made publicly visible through exhibitions and publications. Since 2019, the RealismusGalerie in Berlin-Kreuzberg has been showing three to four exhibitions a year. Extensive themed exhibitions have been organized in Stuttgart, Templin, Wetzlar, Groß-Umstadt, Königshain, and Essenheim. Approximately 100 supporting members support the association.
