Accompanying program for the exhibition *Inventing Queer Cinema*

In 1926, German author John Henry Mackay published the novel *Der Puppenjunge: The Story of a Nameless Love from Friedrichstrasse*, about the bookseller Hermann Graff, who falls in love with the street boy Günter.

In 1992, filmmaker and activist Wieland Speck adapted the novel, but his screenplay was never filmed.

We’ll talk with Speck about his adaptation, his successful activism, and failed financing attempts. Actor Til Schindler will read parts of the screenplay in public for the first time.

Reading and discussion

  • Wieland Speck (director, curator, former Berlinale Panorama, TEDDY Awards)
  • Til Schindler (actor)
