"Balkan Affairs," presented as part of the VOICES BERLIN FESTIVAL, presents a haunting soundscape between memory, identity, and the future.

Against the backdrop of a Europe drifting apart, threatened by populism and war, seven composers from the seven republics that emerged from the former Yugoslavia artistically explore the effects of the Balkan Wars – a legacy that continues to profoundly shape their societies today.

Their individual, insightful artistic statements offer diverse perspectives on this turbulent period. As members of the younger generation, they experienced the war as children, teenagers, or never at all. Their encounter with the voices and personalities of the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart has resulted in seven performative works for voice and electronics.
