Performing Arts Season 2025/2026

As an international co-production, the artists Nina Laisné and François Chaignaud, together with the singer Nadia Larcher, are creating “Último helecho” – a performance in which music, song and dance merge into a single entity, combining Baroque with South American folklore and mythology.

"Último helecho" is the second collaboration between François Chaignaud and Nina Laisné following their production "Romances inciertos, un autre Orlando," for which they created a unique poetic and artistic cosmos: drag and dance, old Spanish songs, and queer heroic narratives were interwoven into a celebration of fluid identities and forms of expression.

The subjects and means from which "Último helecho" emerges are similarly diverse: Nina Laisné, who, in addition to performances, also works as a filmmaker and visual artist, is responsible for the music, direction, and scenography.

While trained dancer François Chaignaud also sings on stage – he already accompanied his solos in "Romances inciertos" with falsetto and bass vocals – Nadia Larcher, a celebrated singing star in South America, will join him for the first time to try out the folk dances of her homeland.

From the chacarera to the majestic zambas to the huaynos, the diverse repertoire of traditional Argentinian music and dance will serve as the foundation for the performance. The duo will be accompanied live on stage by six musicians whose artistic roots lie partly in the Baroque period and partly in folklore.

The evening consists of two parts, the first of which evokes a bygone, lost world. Two hybrid creatures come to life within it. The second is characterized by great vitality and a series of energetic dances. "Ultimo helecho" confronts and connects aesthetic practices from Europe and South America, evoking the shared history of both continents, which is also the history of marginalization and exploitation, of imperialism. The performance explores – through the poetry and the fabulous that underlie the songs and dances – the possibilities of consolation and reconciliation.

The artistic creations of François Chaignaud and Nina Laisné are diverse and distinctive attempts to draw from diverse traditions and sources.

While Nina Laisné is equally active in the performing and visual arts, François Chaignaud works as a dancer, performer, singer, and choreographer. Both share a passion for pushing boundaries and a longing for a fusion of past, history, and present.
