The Museum Island in Berlin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to spectacular art treasures, is celebrating its anniversary: 200 years ago, the history of the unique ensemble of buildings surrounded by the River Spree in the heart of Berlin began.
Five major museums invite you to five years of fascinating special exhibitions, music events and educational programmes. The Alte Museum, located on the green Lustgarten, where it all began in 1825, kicked off 2025.
Here you will find the latest information.

Five-year anniversary, with a different museum taking centre stage each year: In 2025, the Altes Museum (1) celebrated the laying of the foundation stone. 2026 will then see the Alte Nationalgalerie (3) take centre stage and from 2027 you can once again see the world-famous Pergamon Altar in the Pergamonmuseum (4)! 2028 sees the Neues Museum (5) celebrate the start of construction 185 years ago and 2029 sees the Bode Museum (6) take centre stage.
