Parade and park festival send a message in support of second opinions and better quality of care
The goal of this day of action is to increase awareness, promote social dialogue, and sustainably improve care for women with ovarian cancer.
Together, the German Ovarian Cancer Foundation and the Association for Gynecological Cancers in Germany (Verein Gynäkologische Krebserkrankungen Deutschland e.V.) cordially invite you to participate in this year’s event. The focus is on the call for improved treatment quality through excellent medical second opinions. Under the motto: “Second Opinion. More Options. Better Quality,” the event aims to bring the importance of well-informed therapeutic decisions in the face of a complex oncological diagnosis into the public spotlight.
From Protest to Encounter:
Schedule and Program on May 9
The public parade for World Ovarian Cancer Day begins on May 9, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the corner of Friedrichstraße and Unter den Linden.
From there, the procession will proceed to the Brandenburg Gate, where a rally will send a visible signal for greater awareness, breaking taboos, and social solidarity. Following the rally, a park festival in the nearby Tiergarten will provide a space for open discussion. Visitors can expect a diverse program featuring a picnic, workshops, music
as well as opportunities for information and conversation. The focus is on networking, education, and accessible information for those affected, their families, and interested members of the public.
The day of action concludes at 8:00 p.m. with a special evening finale that opens new perspectives and sends a lasting signal for the further development of gynecologic oncology care in Germany and Europe.
About the German Ovarian Cancer Foundation
The German Ovarian Cancer Foundation is committed to education, research, and comprehensive support for those affected and their families. Through events
, information campaigns, and networking initiatives, it helps to sustainably improve medical care and societal awareness of ovarian cancer.
For ten years now, the foundation, under the leadership of Susanne Fechner and Prof. Dr. Jalid Sehouli, Director of the Department of Gynecology at Charité and founder of the foundation, has been organizing a diverse program around World Ovarian Cancer Day. The focus is on information, connection, and visibility for patients, their families, and survivors. With over 7,000 new cases annually in Germany alone, ovarian cancer is one of the most significant yet frequently underestimated gynecological cancers. The awareness day therefore specifically focuses on education, networking, and strengthening patients’ rights.
