"Vom Bleiben und Verändern" (Of Staying and Changing): From 2 September 2022, the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Museum will be showing photographs from the Charlottenburg neighbourhood of the 1970s and 1980s. With his camera, Gottfried Schenk traced the coexistence in the Charlottenburg neighbourhoods. As an affected tenant and activist, he accompanied the processes of urban renewal, squatting and neighbourhood initiatives, which still exist today, with photographs over many years.
In his photographs, he combines these points of view to create a portrait of the neighbourhood around Klausener Platz. From corner pubs and neighbourhood life, free spaces for subculture and the imaginative resistance of the tenants' movement, a coexistence developed that unfolds in the photographs of the exhibition.
