Vocal Magic

The vocal ensemble Tonbande from Cologne presents new sonic landscapes of love with atmospheric guitar accompaniment. A concert full of energy, emotion, diversity, and the joy of singing.

About the individual groups:

The pop choir Gebrannte Mandeln Berlin, under the direction of Sandra Lugbull-Krien, is known for its rousing choral sound, stylistic diversity, and pure joy of singing. A cappella—and in selected pieces with sensitive piano accompaniment—this intergenerational choir interprets pop songs from various genres in its own unique way. Sophisticated arrangements, mostly in five-part harmony, lend the songs depth, richness, and a special emotional intensity. The choir’s palpable enthusiasm fills the room with such positive energy that it immediately spreads to the audience.

The Berliner Montagschor, led by Anna Bolz, is an indie pop choir with a soft spot for big emotions and great songs. On stage, familiar tracks meet polyphonic arrangements, sometimes stripped-down and intimate, sometimes powerful and quite direct. Their repertoire includes everything that sticks in your mind, from Radiohead to MIA., from soft to loud. Above all, however, it’s a choir that is clearly having fun and conveys exactly that to the audience.

Much—but not all—of Tonbande’s current program revolves around the many facets of love. The polished four-part vocals are accompanied by a guitar that plays with a variety of genres, including folk, pop, blues, and swing.
