Concert for choir and orchestra
Marcus Merkel founded the Junge Philharmonie Berlin while he was still a student and has been its artistic director ever since. The Berliner studied conducting, composition, piano and singing in Berlin. He also trained as a jazz pianist and singer, as well as on the double bass and saxophone.
He won the national composition competition and the festival fanfare competition at the TU Graz four times, among others. He attended courses with Gianluigi Gelmetti and was a guest with Christian Thielemann in Bayreuth.
