Workshop with Germaine Acogny

Germaine Acogny, an icon of contemporary African dance, will lead the workshop “Technique Acogny – Contemporary African Dance” as part of the launch of the UNEXPECTED LESSONS – Knowledges of Body and Sound series. Germaine Acogny has developed her own technique, which she describes as “African dance in a modern form of expression.”

At the center of her work is the spine—a symbol of the serpent and the tree of life. Many movements are inspired by images of nature—from the Fromager tree to the water lily to the eagle—as well as by everyday gestures. The Acogny technique is precise, lively, and powerful. Warm-ups, floor work, and choreographic sequences invite dancers with prior experience to rediscover their own movement qualities and transform traditional forms into a contemporary, universal dance language.

A unique opportunity to experience Germaine Acogny in person in Berlin and learn directly from her. The workshop will be accompanied by live music.
