Since the Spider Murphy Gang (SMG) from Munich were considered by many to be the spearhead of the New German Wave during their heyday in the early 80s, a lot has happened in over 40 years of stage experience.
Their roots come from synth rock, pop and wave sounds (e.g. "Wo bist du", "Ich schau dich an", "Skandal im Sperrbezirk") and with their album "Unplugged - Skandal im Lustspielhaus" they move on to rockabilly, boogie woogie, zydeco, jazz, swing, blues, country and ragtime.
The Schwabing boys, who are also affectionately called "Spiders" by their fans, show with their unplugged concert that they are not a simple pop band or NDW combo. Their search for traces begins at the beginning of the 20th century and harmonizes wonderfully with some of their own hits in their band's history. You will therefore not only find the tried and tested songs of the Spiders, but also Elvis, Chuck Berry, Hank Williams, as well as Canned Heat and Rocco Granata.
Unusual for the SMG, as they originated as a traditional and purist rock'n'roll band.
A band whose new face suits them well:
Frontman Günter Sigl takes on the role of entertainer and musical tour guide - to be able to tell his audience anecdotes and special experiences.
Guitarist Barney Murphy impresses with his acoustic instrument, Willie Duncan shines on everything that has strings - pianist Ludwig Seuss shines with boogie woogie and jazz - and wind player Otto Staniloi masters his instruments both gently and powerfully. Andreas Keller and Dieter Radig, who complete the Spider Murphy Gang, give the concert the right rhythm on their various percussion instruments.
In this way they create an almost intimate atmosphere, as if the band were sitting on your living room couch.
Over 40 years of stage experience - that is one of the secrets of the great success of the Spiders, as they are called here in Munich and by their fans.
Without a doubt, Günther Sigl, Barny Murphy, Andreas Keller, Willie Duncan, Ludwig Seuss, Dieter Radig and Otto Staniloi manage to get the fans cheering and every hall going like no other live band - even unplugged - in a very short space of time.
Party and rock'n'roll - with all their heart and with pure passion - is still the motto of the band, whose biggest hit "Skandal im Sperrbezirk" is older than some concertgoers. Without exaggeration, the band can certainly be described as one of the best German-speaking live acts. They are always drawn back to the heart of their "Sperrbezirk", where the "Skandal" originated. Thank God!
POWER WITHOUT ELECTRICITY
You hardly believe it: even a rock'n'roll band like the Spider Murphy Gang can rock without electricity. The band's unplugged concerts are just as dynamic and rousing as those with electric instruments. And they also conjure up a personal, almost intimate atmosphere - as if the gang were sitting in your living room at home.
But this special atmosphere is not the only thing that makes the gang's unplugged concerts a special experience. An evening like this is more than just music: the Spider Murphy Gang also tells the story of their band and rock'n'roll.
There are secrets, anecdotes and special experiences emerge, and the Spider Murphy Gang's big hits are accompanied by rock'n'roll classics that had a particular influence on the band. In spirit and in sound, Chuck Berry, Elvis and Hank Williams are just as much a part of the group as Canned Heat and Rocco Granata.
Spider Murphy Gang unplugged is therefore a very special highlight. If you haven't been there yet, keep your eyes peeled for the next date. But be careful: the tickets usually sell out quickly.
