International inclusive theater festival. Multilingualism on Stage
Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivauxs' rousing comedy uncovers the dark side of our working world. Abuse of power and shocking injustices are revealed! With sharp-witted humor and surprising twists, every scene is still a mirror of our society today.
Four Greeks, survivors of a shipwreck, land on an unusual slave island: Iphikrates, his servant Arlequin, Euphrosine and her maid Cleanthis.
Here the world has been turned upside down: The former masters must now take on the perspective of the servants in order to recognize the abysses of their own despotism. In this powerful role reversal, Arlequin and Cleanthis support Iphikrates and Euphrosine with unsparing descriptions of the injustice they have suffered, without seeking revenge on their former masters.
Through this learning process, the four Greeks gain reason and insight. In the end, they have the opportunity to return to Athens - but what have they learned from their time on the slave island?
The performance will be streamed live from Archipel Théâtre, Avignon. Part of TraNET-Festival “Clashing Classics”, initiated by the theatre ensemble multicultural city e.V..
