presented by Jazz am Helmholtzplatz e.V.
When the era of free jazz began, Django Reinhardt had already died. Many musicians on the French jazz scene began practicing this genre of music in the 1960s. The "Django Free" concert will show how a Berlin free jazz band interprets the material of the 1940s and 1950s today.
Will the enchanting free jazz band “Schlapitzki” play Django Reinhardt's pieces backwards, fragmenting his melodies so that only the first note of a piece counts as a mark of identification?
