Detours increase local knowledge
"Detours increase local knowledge" - Sculptor Rudolf Borkenhagen picked up this phrase during a radio broadcast.
He was surprised about how well it fits his artistic approach, because:
He does not succeed in working directly and straight towards a destination.
It simply fails because there is no such precisely defined destination.
He has a rough idea of where he wants to go.
It is important to take detours, sometimes to do backwards and always pay attention to what is on the left and the right side of the path.
These detours turn out to be most important for the work process and help him to develop his sculptures and collages.
