The political and geographical island of West Berlin was the muse of realistic and fantastic painters.

The changes in the cityscape from 1949 to 1989 were dazzling, obsessively occupying the artists even in their youth.

Werner Heldt, who once accompanied Heinrich Zille through the pubs, painted fantastic, deserted streets in the 1950s. After the evacuation, Karlhenz Ziegler returned to a landscape of ruins that he drew his whole life. Sigurd Wendland is a chronicler of the endless summer of the 70s and 80s. Matthias Koeppel left a party on 9 November and became a chronicler of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which brought with it the dissolution of the island.

It will be shown Rixdorfers and painters of the Neue Prächtigkeit school, painter-poets and outsiders.
