Timo Kahlen's interactive films & sound objects

The sound sculptor and media artist Timo Kahlen (* 1966) published a total of 21 works of net art from 2005 to 2020: interactive, 'touchable' film and sound projections on the World Wide Web. All 21 works disappeared with the end of browser support for Flash on January 1, 2021: became mute and translucent, invisible and inaudible.

Now they have been brought back to life: re-encoded, made visible, audible and tangible again - with some technical glitches and dropouts, with unexpected misses, with a bit more sound chaos and some deviations from the historical originals...

Refurbished 'media archaeological' objects of interactive media art - if you will - restored for you now to be experienced anew and 'playable'.

All 21 restored film and sound projections are generated by your individual interaction with the works in real time. The person acting becomes - always live and always new - part of the work. The virtual works thereby react to the movement, position, direction and/or speed of your mouse pointer: which explores the touch-sensitive visual surface, clicks on individual objects, accelerates or pauses, returns or lingers - and in doing so - sometimes purposefully and consciously, sometimes by chance - 'touches', controls and composes the multi-layered levels of sound, noise and vibration invisibly embedded in the projection.

Finissage on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m
