Special Olympics cultural programme
As part of the cultural programme of the Special Olympic World Games 2023, LAG Selbsthilfe Rheinland-Pfalz is bringing the photo exhibition "Mensch ist mehr" to Berlin.
People with visible disabilities often experience being seen as "disabled". They are reduced to a part of their personality. Whether intentionally or not.
The rest of their personality is often faded out. Many of their characteristics, abilities and resources are not perceived or even denied to them.
In contrast, people with non-visible disabilities often experience the following: Their disabilities are dismissed, not taken seriously and doubted. In addition, there is pressure to hide the disabilities as much as possible in order to conform to the "norm".
These barriers in people's minds contribute to the fact that people with disabilities experience rejection, exclusion and discrimination.
The exhibition "Mensch ist mehr" wants to contribute to breaking down barriers in people's minds. The photographs by von Anna Spindelndreier are accompanied by entertaining texts based on in-depth interviews with the 31 personalities.
They show: People are more than meets the eye!
The project is supported by Aktion Mensch.
