Kurdish women and their struggle for freedom

On 29 October, THFxFEMALE EDITION will host a workshop with Cênî, the Kurdish Women’s Office for Peace e.V.

Kurdistan is a cultural region and homeland of the Kurdish people that has developed over centuries, but which has been divided into four states (Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran) since the 20th century as a result of colonial border demarcations. The event will begin by providing a brief insight into this history, before turning its attention to the situation and role of Kurdish women.

The struggle of Kurdish women for freedom

What significance do Kurdish women hold for peace movements and the Women, Life, Freedom movement? Who are the “Mothers for Peace” and what are they campaigning for? And what role do projects and initiatives from Germany play?

The focus will be on the experiences and work of Cênî – The Kurdish Women’s Office for Peace e.V.: its aims, its commitment and specific projects. The event is structured as a workshop and provides an opportunity for discussion with the audience.

Cênî – Kurdish for ‘women’ – is an association that has been campaigning for peace, women’s rights and international solidarity since 1999. Cênî – The Kurdish Women’s Office for Peace e.V. connects women, supports their work and advocates for a just and peaceful society.
