Habits and patterns - our bodies know what to do - movements are repeated, again and again. Getting up, dressing, looking in the mirror, buying a ticket, through the door to work, already passing a hundred people. Hit by glances, many self-set and some dodged.

Movement patterns protect us, hold us, give us identity. And what if they break off? When the accustomed trajectory falters? The rupture is the abyss. Or liberation. Fear or lust. Together with ten Black Women*, the choreographer and visual artist Magda Korsinsky has looked at everyday behavior patterns, gestural routines, repetitions of the self.
Patterns that unconsciously and sometimes consciously define us, patterns that are our bodies. We form them under pressure and against the pressure of the behavioural forms of the dominant society. Behaviour that can be shifted. From which our own counter-rhythms can be developed. Together with ten everyday experts*, PATTERNS turns everyday black women* into a choreography, an archive of self-determined gestures, a new composition of the different actions of black women*.

PATTERNS is Magda Korsinsky's third work at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, in which she takes gestures, their socialization, their stubbornness as the starting point for her work, the reflection of black identities in Germany. In STRICKEN, the focus was on the relationships between black women* and their white grandmothers, on their gestural and habitual heritage, but now on the presence of black women* between the ages of 17 and 59.
