This year, the focus will once again be on Max Liebermann’s impressive garden, which has been reconstructed and lovingly maintained for decades.

With its varied visual axes, it offers numerous inspiring motifs for viewers and artists alike. The perennial garden, the hedge gardens, the birch path, and the view across the open garden space on the Wannsee side provide diverse incentives to observe this special retreat closely and to interpret it through painting and drawing.

The course is designed for interested visitors who wish to draw inspiration from the motifs in Max and Martha Liebermann’s garden for their own artistic work during the four sessions.

You will have the opportunity to recreate Max Liebermann’s motifs—which he studied and captured in hundreds of artworks—using graphite, colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, or mixed media. The course offers the chance to explore the various forms of expression in drawing (sketches, studies, design drawings) and painting techniques on an individual basis.
