The exhibition honours a pioneer of the avant-garde whose works – including iconic buildings such as the church on Hohenzollernplatz, which is also the exhibition venue, and the Knesset in Jerusalem – built bridges between the expressionist tradition and radical modernism in Germany and Israel.

Nevertheless, he remains largely unknown today.

Klarwein fled Warsaw in 1905, studied in Germany and was a master student of Hans Poelzig. Between 1926 and 1933, he was chief architect in Fritz Höger's office. After emigrating in 1933, he continued to work as an architect and urban planner in the Mandatory Palestine.

The exhibition presents:
  • over 100 projects, plans, models and photographs
  • multimedia access (3D models, film stations)
  • a current photo series by Eli Singalovski
  • accompanying tours and publications (catalogue in German and English)
