Learning to shape the future
You’ll learn about the Futures Thinking method, a combination of futures studies and design thinking. It’s about identifying trends, evaluating them, and combining them into desirable future scenarios.
Futures Thinking helps you better understand the complex challenges of the future—both professionally and personally. Because: The future is what people make of it!
In terms of content, participants will explore the agriculture of the future.
Without it, there would be no breakfast, no clothing, no furniture. It sustains us, shapes landscapes and societies—and yet it is under pressure: climate change, species extinction, and soil depletion threaten its future. At the same time, it is itself part of these challenges. Policy, research, and practice are developing new solutions—from agroforestry and smart technologies to climate-resilient farming methods. We, as consumers, also play a role in this. Agriculture is at a turning point—and its future is being decided right now.
In this workshop, we will collectively examine agriculture and land use in 2040 in a region like Berlin and Brandenburg:
-> Who will own the land in the future?
-> How can equitable access to land, water, and soil be ensured?
-> How can agriculture, nature and climate protection, and urban development be meaningfully combined?
The event is part of the workshop series “Learning to Shape the Future,” which takes place once a month as part of the Open Lab evening. Over the course of four modules, you’ll learn well-founded methods for shaping the future, which you can compile into your own personal toolkit for the future.
Workshop Facilitator
The Berlin Ideas Lab is a lab for transformation design. The team supports organizations in the design process of sustainable product and service innovations as well as desirable visions of the future using methods from futures studies, design thinking, and visual storytelling.
