The emotional exchange of letters between Claire and Yvan Goll

Claire and Yvan Goll could live neither with nor without each other. They loved, cheated, broke up and reconciled for over 30 years, during which time they wrote numerous letters that are not only passionate but also full of poetry.

On the one hand, the correspondence between the poet couple reveals the story of a love triangle that arose through Yvan Goll’s relationship with the poet Paula Ludwig and, on the other hand, represents an exceptional (art) historical document from the years 1917 to 1950: the Golls’ apartment in Paris served as a meeting point for many artists and women artists; the couple knew Rilke, Picasso, Chagall, Einstein and Dalí, among others. Through the exchange of letters, however, one also learns about economic emergencies, professional successes and failures and, last but not least, about the couple's flight together into exile in New York in 1939.

A highly emotional exchange of letters, which at the same time reflects an eventful time!
