Musiktanznulldreissg (MT030) is an initiative of flutist Friederike Wendorf and dancer Manuela Lucia Tessi, born in Berlin in 2014. It is a platform aimed at fostering the collaboration of dance and music in performance. It consists of a performance series, workshops and practice sessions.
Friederike and Manuela met in the improvising music and dance scene of Amsterdam, and noticing the interest in the local artists community of Berlin, they decided to create events that provide a dedicated space where dance and music can mutually contaminate and inspire each other.
They have since then created together more than 40 performance events, inviting numerous ad hoc collaborators to perform with them. In 2017 they created The Loom, a score for a quartet for Soundance Festival in Berlin, and in 2018 the quartet KlingKlang for young audiences.
In their work, they like to combine spontaneity with a thoughtful approach towards composition in real time.
Curators bios:
Manuela Lucia Tessi is a dance artist that has dedicated the last 20 years developing dance performance in close collaboration with musicians and composers from diverse backgrounds. Originally from Italy, she is based in the Netherlands. She completed her dance studies at the Modern Theater Dance department at the AHK in Amsterdam and has continued to deepen the research on movement and interdisciplinary composition with Katie Duck, one of her greatest creative influences, a.o.
Her great motivation to create movement is in relationship to the sonic and when creating, teaching and collaborating she refers to movement to be listened to, sound to be seen. Her work is often process oriented, however there is much care for the product: she believes in the organic connection between the two.
Friederike Wendorf is a freelance musician and flute teacher in Berlin. Her artistic focus lies in improvisation, particularly the relationship between sound and movement, which she keeps exploring with flute, alto flute and bass flute. She is an active member of the free improvising scene in Berlin, where she works with musicians and dancers.Born and raised in West Germany, she began her classical music education at the age of five.
Her interest in movement and improvisation led her to explore the different avenues of ballet and jazz. Friederike completed her flute studies at the conservatoires in Berlin (UdK), Cologne (HfMT) and Amsterdam (CvA) obtaining degrees in classical music and jazz. Meanwhile she pursued her interest in movement, taking classes in modern dance, tango, salsa, acrobatics and yoga.
