Works for Soprano and String Quartet

Arnold Schoenberg's Second String Quartet not only marks a turning point toward free atonality – a revolutionary step that will be presented twice this season in the Pierre Boulez Hall with different ensembles.

The inclusion of a vocal part in the classical quartet ensemble was also unusual at the time of its composition and, until then, was known primarily from song arrangements.

Mojca Erdmann and the Marmen Quartet will juxtapose Schoenberg's Opus 10 with works by Guillaume Lekeu and Ernest Chausson, whose arrangements for voice, string quartet, and piano will be supplemented by a student from the Barenboim-Said Academy.

The program is rounded out by Heine settings by Felix Mendelssohn, arranged for string quartet by Aribert Reimann and combined with contemporary intermezzi.
