Open-Air-Cinema in the garden of the Mies van der Rohe Haus
The Mies van der Rohe House invites you to a screening of the film MAX BILL – THE ABSOLUTE AUGENMASS (German with English subtitles). A Q&A session will follow with director Erich Schmid and Angela Thomas Schmid (Max Bill Georges Vantongerloo Foundation).
The film about Max Bill (1908–1994) explores his life in the tension between art, aesthetics, and politics. It opens new perspectives on the Bauhaus student, artist, architect, and designer—particularly as a committed left-wing intellectual whose stance was inextricably linked to his work.
Thanks to the close collaboration with Max Bill's widow, Angela Thomas Schmid, and numerous personal archival recordings, the film succeeds in providing a remarkably close portrait of an artist who stood up for his convictions throughout his life.
