Success as Submission

Malte Schlösser & Team try to escape the constraints of a society of success, of functioning and the omnipresent expectations. IN:KON:SIS:TEN:ZEN performs a balancing act between slapstick and consolation, between narrative emptiness of meaning and heightening of being.

This evening of theatre has no intention of succeeding, and yet it sets out to do just that, creating new connections and celebrating the moment of coming together.

Success stories define the way we talk and think: no sentence or interest, no look, gesture or feeling that is not scrutinised for it. How can these narratives be rewritten or stripped of meaning? With the help of lost words, attempted jokes, cinematic hyperrealities and musical melancholy, three performers try to break out and counter the ideas of "successful biographies". But is that supposed to be successful at all?

IN:KON:SIS:TEN:ZEN moves on the edges of banality and post-splatter and uses the aesthetics of rupture. But, and this is the dilemma, you also have to be able to do that again. Through contradictions, sentences hanging in the air and contemplative expenditure, this evening approaches the living being despite the pressure of success and expectation and explores the open. A game of failure that neither wants to win nor lose.
