Exclusive film screening & live concert for the cinema release

The Berlin big band OMNIVERSAL EARKESTRA made their way to Mali to meet the legendary stars of their record collection.

During the journey to the hometowns of the now almost forgotten bands from the 70s - such as the Mystère Jazz de Tombouctou, the Kanaga de Mopti, Super Biton de Ségou and the Rail Band from Bamako - modern big band arrangements of the old pieces were created, which were Salif Keita's venerable Moffou studio were recorded together. The band's road trip, the special artistic and musical experiences during the sessions and in the studio were accompanied on film.

This resulted in the documentary film LE MALI 70 by Markus CM Schmidt, which will start in German cinemas on August 17th. We are showing the film as an exclusive preview together with a live concert by Berlin's OMNIVERSAL EARKESTRA and Malian musicians from the film: Cheick Tidiane Seck, Aly Keita, Mouneissa Tandina, Issa Sory Bamba and Adama Diarra.

Come and dance - to the finest big band jazz in the Kesselhaus!
