Jazz am Helmholtzplatz e.V

The Lajos Meinberg Trio is an up-and-coming formation from the young jazz scene in Berlin. It stands for modern, creative music, whereby "modern" is always defined as fresh and curious, never as a ban on tradition. The musicians seek their own musical expression in their own compositions as well as in the interpretation of other very different music.

All three musicians are current or former students of the renowned Jazz Institute Berlin and have become integral parts of the Berlin jazz scene. The trio plays concerts in jazz clubs and at festivals across Germany.

Lajos grew up in a family of musicians and thus developed a love of jazz at an early age. Since 2020 he has been studying at the Jazz Institute Berlin with Wolfgang Köhler, Tino Dorado and Bastian Stein and has been active in the Berlin jazz scene ever since.

Lajos has already had the opportunity to play with musicians such as Rodney Green, Doug Weiss, Matt Wilson, Martin Wind, Marc Muellbauer, Heinrich Köbberling and Gabriel Coburger. He is a multiple Youth Jazzt prize winner in both combo and solo categories and also won 2nd prize at the Carl Bechstein Competition 2018 in the jazz piano solo category. He also won the Ingolf Burkhardt Award 2022 and 1st prize at the International Jazzhaus Piano Competition in Freiburg in 2024. In August 2023, Lajos was part of the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy and had the opportunity to learn from musicians such as Anat Cohen, Donny McCaslin and Sullivan Fortner.

Morten Larsen (1995) is a double bassist from Kolding, Denmark. He started playing bass at the age of 11 and has since been able to learn from renowned musicians such as Morten Christian Haxholm in Kolding, Thomas Fryland in Copenhagen and Greg Cohen in Berlin.

Between 2016 and 2019, Morten was active as a freelance musician in the Copenhagen jazz scene before starting his studies at the Jazz Institute Berlin. In his musical career so far, Morten has had the pleasure of performing with musicians such as Tomas Frank, Ben Besiakov, Thomas Fryland, Heinrich Köbberling, Bob Rockwell and Pierre Dørge.

Ugo Alunni is a drummer from Perugia, Italy. He attended the Conservatorio di Musica "Francesco Morlacchi" di Perugia (2000-2004) and then moved to New York to study further at the Collective School of Music (2005-2006). Since 2010 he has lived in Berlin, where he studied at the Jazz Institute Berlin under the direction of John Hollenbeck, Greg Cohen, Kurt Rosenwinkel and David Friedman and graduated in 2016.

He has played with Rossano Emili, the Perugia Jazz Orchestra, Pietro Tonolo, Joe Chambers, Alessandro Lanzoni, Elias Stemeseder, Marcin Masecki, Tarek Yamani and many others.
