26th Jazz and Blue Stage Lichterfelde: LET THEM TALK - Reflections Of “The Big Easy”
With over 2,800 concerts in 18 European countries, as well as performances in the USA, Israel, and Africa, and numerous released albums, Jan Luley has been a fixture on the European jazz scene for many years.
Jan Luley is one of the most outstanding European pianists who bring the deeply rooted musical tradition of New Orleans to the stage with virtuosic skill and fresh creativity. He describes his style as "Contemporary New Orleans Style Piano."
CLEO is one of the most exciting newcomers among young European singers, as her music breathes the depth and emotional intensity of the blues. Her voice evokes a feeling like velvet and chili, and she handles it with disarming natural virtuosity. She was the first European singer to perform at the opening gala of the Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans and the very first singer to perform in the newly opened Elbphilharmonie. Their debut CD, "Let Them Talk - CLEO & Jan Luley Trio," was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize.
The music of CLEO and Jan Luley, who met in New Orleans, reflects all the influences of American music history:
a captivating gumbo of swing, blues, pop, and soul inspired by American gospel, blues, and jazz artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Eva Cassidy, Gregory Porter, and others. Their interpretations are highly original, spontaneous, and characterized by a deep understanding of the power and soul of the music. CLEO sings about love and loss, the lives of musicians in the jazz era, doubt and solidarity, and the scars left by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana.
