Lecture in english by Dr. Daria Ghiu
The complex relationship between Constantin Brâncuși and the Venice Biennale opens up a deeper exploration of the dynamics of tradition and modernity, nationalism, and multifaceted processes of reception.
The lecture examines Brâncuși from a broader temporal perspective, traversing various political regimes, archival materials, and art-critical discourses from 1924 to the present.
Dr. Daria Ghiu earned her Ph.D. in art history and theory at UNARTE Bucharest with a dissertation on the history of the Romanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. She is an art critic, art historian, and journalist at Radio România Cultural. In November 2015, her book “În acest pavilion se vede artă” was published, based on her doctoral thesis. From 2016 to 2023, she was an associate lecturer at CESI – Center for Excellence in Image Studies. For Radio România Cultural, she produces the programs “Arte frumoase” and “Orașul vorbește.” Since 2007, she has been writing art reviews for numerous cultural publications in Romania and internationally.
